The resurgence of the wonderfully eclectic Ridgewood Queens venue Trans-Pecos saw the return of old favorite Kid Millions on Monday, this time paired with semi-regular collaborator saxophonist Jim Sauter. However, to call Sauter a “saxophone player” is to very poorly describe what it is exactly that he does. Sauter plays his horn through an amp preceded by a bank of pedals and the result is a sound that sometimes more resembles a guitar than a sax. For the larger than expected Monday night crowd, the Duo performed a short-ish set that was long on intensity. The Duo have collaborated for more than five years and have released two studio albums, Boanerges in 2012 (Doubt Music) and Fountain (Family Vineyard), and a recent 7″ on Feeding Tube Records. So that while the two only play together every few months, they remain entirely in sync and have that unspoken musical language not uncommon among extraordinarily skilled players.
This set was recorded from the Pecos board by FOH Eric who stereo panned the performers for a nice balanced mix. This recording is quite superb. Enjoy!
