The Drums were the third of four bands who performed at Jonny Leather’s excellent show at Bell House in late July. The performance was the band’s eleventh show in its existence, but the tightness and ease of the band belied their newness as a unit. The Drums are self-described as combination of the Factory Records sound and 50’s “surf culture”, but as a live band they sounded singularly as if transported magically from Brit pop circa 1982 — featuring the haircuts, clothing and tape machines from the era. The forty-minute set featured several numbers from their upcoming debut EP Summertime (September release), and newer material from an anticipated full length release.
The Drums are an excellent band for a Saturday in the Summer, and in the end of August they will do just that — on Saturday August 29 at Littlefield as part of the After The Jump Fest ‘09.
We recorded this set from the same location/equipment as the My Teenage Stride recording and the sound is quite excellent. Enjoy!
