If Bob Weir’s set on Saturday of the Wanee Festival had the more emotional coda, I found I enjoyed this Friday set a bit more. First, we got some of the best songs from Bob’s new album, Blue Mountain, which has been hailed as one of his finest in years. Second, there was just something right about the interplay between Bob and the band during this set. If “Lay My Lily Down” from the new record was fresh because, well, it’s new, the classic “China Cat”>”Rider” and “West L.A. Fadeaway” felt like Weir and his band had something to prove, and did. Sure, the Saturday set was longer, and it had the Trey pairing that the Internet cares about, but if you wanted the best of current-day Bob Weir, for my money, this late afternoon set was the pick.
I recorded this set from the same location as the Saturday night recording, more or less, and the sound quality is excellent. Enjoy!

Hey thanks alot for recording and posting these Bob Weir shows. It’s been awhile since I had an authentic in the flesh GD experience.Dead and Co. is just a little too slow for me and there are other guitar players I’d rather see playing with the core three.Have a good one and thanks again!!!!!
