Silk Fence’s debut album was released less than a week ago and they got to celebrate by playing a 3 show run with Horse Lords and we were lucky enough to catch one!
Silk Fence is a project that fuses minimalism, jazz, kosmische repetition into a tightly coherent package of electroacoustic instrumentals. I’d been listening to the album while working throughout the week and often found myself lost in the textures of sounds and floating blissfully through multiple relistens. It makes the passage of time seem inconsequential.
A trio consisting of Arian Shafiee (Guerilla Toss), Booker Stardrum (SML), and Justin Frye (PC Worship) Silk Fence are old friends finding new ways to explore sound. Across the 30+ minute set they played through their entire new self titled album. I found a personal connection to the album’s closing track “Statue of Liberty” so I was really excited to see that close out the set with a ten minute march towards bliss.
Sadly, Silk Fence doesn’t have any more dates lined up so for now, you’ll enjoy this recording as a taste of what’s to come. I recorded this from the usual spot in the back with Scheops MK22’s and a really nice board feed from Tubby’s ace FOH engineer, Wil. Also, shout out to Reed Jackson for coining the term “Tubby’s Core” which got some good laughs from the staff while chatting prior to the show.
