Xiu Xiu performed a tight fifty-five minute set to a nearly completely reverent crowd at Bowery Ballroom on Thursday night. On tour in support of their latest CD Women as Lovers, Xiu Xiu is anchored by the frenetic and captivating stage presence of leader Jamie Stewart but musically propelled as a trio by the superb percussion work of Ches Smith. Although the set was a nice mix of old and newer material, the brevity of the set and lack of encore left a sense of incompleteness to an otherwise excellent performance.
We recorded from the perfect location in this venue with our best mobile rig and the results are outstanding. Enjoy!
Evangelista was also recorded and will be posted next week.

Nice review of the previous night’s Boston show here:

the thing with xiu xiu is that they have too many great songs! An over abundance… they’ll have to play for like 2 hours to give their trajectory some justice.
I think it was well balanced, even if they didn’t play a couple of songs I would have loved to hear! Anyways, thanks for this. I was thinking about how much I wanted that Fabulous Muscles version…. you’ve got a cool thing going. Keep it up! :)
thank you soooooooooooooo much, i was there and was wishing i had taken some pics/recorded even just one song.
Thanks for taping Evangelista, too. They’re phenomenal, and I’m looking forward to hearing their set. I’d really wanted to try to make one of the northeast dates, but I couldn’t squeeze an 8-hour roundtrip into my schedule last week.
