Happy New Year to all of our faithful readers. 2011 was a banner year again for NYCTaper and the site continues to grow in size and recognition. We again must thank in earnest the artists who have contributed their superb music to the site, along with the many venues who have welcomed us. Additionally, the management, labels, agents, photographers, fellow bloggers, fellow tapers, and all other people who have contributed one way or another in making this site what it is today are so appreciated. We hope again to bring all of you the same kind of quality recordings in 2012!

[Caveat: Below is the updated schedule. We expect to attend and record these events. However, circumstances will prevent some of these from being done, and others will be added in the meantime.]

If you want nyctaper to record your band, a band you represent, a show you’re promoting, or even your favorite band in the world, get us in the door and make sure everyone who needs to approve of the recording gives permission. Also, remember each person on the nyctaper crew does this all for free, the recordings, the post-production, the reviews, the links, etc., so treat us fairly.

    Great schedule.

You’re not going to the Mark Lanegan show on February 7th?

  3. January 6, 2012 at 7:48 am

As far as I know, Lanegan does not want his concerts recorded. If my info is wrong, please let me know.

He has no official policy that I’m aware of :
    http://onewhiskey.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=thefaq&action=display&thread=1

And he does not seem to be against it as long as it’s not for selling, at least I saw tapers at his shows and his management walked past them without taking notice and you can find a great deal of shows for download on this fan-forum which is well-knwon to his management :

    Hope that helps!

Wow – Bjork! How’d you manage that?!

  7. January 6, 2012 at 11:13 am

I’ll look more into the Lanegan show.

Wussy was an oversight, its now been added to the list.

Bjork does not seem to object to unobtrusive fan recordings as per her official forum notice: http://4um.bjork.com/viewtopic.php?t=19705

If you’d consider recording Marcellus Hall’s opening set for Craig Finn at the Mercury on Feb 29, I’d be glad to write to Mr. Hall and request taping permission.

Here’s hoping Frankie gives permission. It’d be nice to hear what the sophomore might sound like without the Outs.

Nice list! I was thinking of seeing Nada Surf on 4/2 in Chicago at the Metro. Do you know a place to find their taping policy? Also, any idea if you think they’d be agreeable to being added to archive.org?

We’ve actually spoken to the organizers of this event before about recording, and they have never gotten back to us to my knowledge. I agree that it looks interesting – we’re waiting to hear from them.

^That’s too bad. They seem like they would be very taper-friendly. Jesse (of TUS) posted a Communion plug video on the TUS facebook account, and it seems really cool.

Realise you normally cover the glorious Woods when they play. If you are taping their gig at 285 Kent Ave (May 5th) I highly recommend the support band Mmoss as worth capturing as well.
