Animal Collective at Manhattan Center Ballroom January 20 – Tickets on Sale

This one caught me a bit by surprise as it popped up on the Bowery Presents website today or yesterday. Animal Collective will appear at the Manhattan Center Ballroom on January 20, 2009. Tickets went on sale about a half hour ago. I just got one through ticketmaster, so its not sold out…yet.

This is Animal Collective’s first appearance in a full band show since September 30 / October 1, 2007 at Webster Hall. We recorded both of those sets, along with an Avey Tare / Deakin / Kria Brekkan set in January.

Really full band? I didn’t see anything about that and thought Deakin didn’t work on MPP. Details?

I guess I should correct myself. In my haste to post this news, I was not quite accurate. When I said full band, I did not intend to imply that Deakin would be part of this. Its actually my understanding that Deakin is still on sabbatical from AC. What I meant by “full band” was to contrast this show from the solo efforts (Avey/Deak/Kria, Avey with Atlas Sound, etc) that have occurred over the last year. The other correction is that this is the first NYC show since Fall 2007, and not the first show overall. They have of course toured around Europe and did indeed perform at a Festival in New Jersey in August.

Ahh, gotcha. Anyone know what Deakin’s deal is? I remember seeing him at the Seaport show summer of 2k7, but he was side stage. They were great this summer at APW, and pitchfork, and the new album is incredible. not to mention that its CD release day and inauguration day! New world order for sure.

Well, I have a ticket. AC encourages taping. The Manhattan Center Ballroom sounded amazing last time I was there. What do you think?

Is it too much to ask for these guys to make the trek to MC? St. Louis? Tulsa (don’t laugh!)?

Ha, is it wrong that I don’t even know what MC is? Motor City? AC in TULSA would be sick though, they’d twist that town up all nice and weird.

sigur ros sounded great there, and since the AC show is GA i assume everybody would be able to move about freely, not that security is really present at grand ballroom. like AC, i encourage taping on this one.

I was planning on taping this show too, and am glad to see that there is minimal security (as per RV)… Will they let bookbags in the venue? I’ve never been to the grand ballroom but I know this is gonna be one of those shows to remember for sure….
