I love this picture. Its the dreidel / disco ball that came down from the ceiling at the Matisyahu show at Webster Hall tonight. It looks like its about the come down onto my microphones, but the dreidel was really about 20 feet in front of me.
We recorded Matisyahu tonight. The performance lasted over two hours. That recording will be up on the site in about two days. He will play 6 more shows this week, at Webster and then at Music Hall of Williamsburg.
We will be at Yo La Tengo tomorrow night and then again on Saturday. We received a blackberry message when Magnetic Fields showed up as the opening act at Maxwell’s for YLT’s show tonight.
Our sources indicate that tonight’s opener is going to be a “free jazz” group. Sun Ra is rumored.
John Zorn is tonight’s guest opener.
Marc Ribot is also here.
YLT setlist, they are about half way through…

Yo La Tengo absolutely smoked last night and it was terrific to see Smokey Hormel play with them. Great guitarist who fitted in with them very well.
It was a long day so I headed out after the 15th or 16th song. Did Conor Oberst actually play last night as reported elsewhere?
More importantly, when is the tape of last night’s show going up?
No Conor, and in fact no guest on the encores. By that point, it didn’t really matter — it was such an outstanding YLT performance.
The recording is amazing, really one of my best. I’m working on it now, and it will be up on the site in a couple of hours.
Any word on tonight’s opener/guests? I’m headed out there (with gear in tow) in a few hours.
