NYCTaper is Four Years Old Today

Four years ago today, I opened this website with some ideas and some goals. I had hoped to be able to keep it going for two years and to be able to have my own platform to distribute my recordings and do some good for the bands. Four years later, the site has developed beyond any reasonable expectations I had in 2007. Now I’m a part of a team of tapers, and the site has become ingrained in the consciousness of music people all over the web. I recall being happy to have 4000 hits one day in 2007 — now we get 40,000 daily. I was happy to have one recorded show per week. Now we’ve come to expect 4 to 5 per week.
In these four years I’ve had the distinct pleasure of witnessing some amazing music, becoming friends with many musicians, bloggers, photographers, and music people of all shapes and sizes. Its truly been my pleasure the entire time.
So thanks to the readers of this site, and let’s hope for four more years!

Hearty congratulations NYCT, you have no idea what a godsend you are to people like me stranded many miles from civilisation and decent live music, where attending any gig of note is a monumental endeavor. Sincerest thanks for your efforts over the last 4 years and keep up the good work – we need you!!

Love what you’re going. You’re an inspiration to me, a taper of 25 years standing, from Ireland.

FOUR MORE YEARS ! FOUR MORE YEARS ! FOUR MORE YEARS !

Thanks for the monumental amount of effort and passion you have put into taping and sharing so many great bands.

And again – sincere congratulations to you.

Actually, more than thank – thanks.

Originally came across the site with that Socrates Sculpture park recording of the furnaces (who I was just discovering at the time), and you’ve been a core fixture of my musical landscape ever since. Back in the FLAC only days – and to think I was in the ‘stay FLAC only’ camp… what do I know eh?

I can honestly say some of my favourite pieces of music in my collection came from this site, and as someone who lives in a small village in the North East of England, it’s nice to be able to keep an ear on such a rich and varied music scene from half way round the world.

All the best to you and the rest of the team.

    Regards,

    Ben.

Congratulations and thank you for all the hard work. I found out about this site when I was looking for reviews of a Feelies show in Southpaw’s, Brooklyn in September 2009. Not only did I find a review, but the entire show recorded in great quality.

Since that day, I’ve discovered new bands like Real Estate, Motel Motel, Yellow Ostrich, War on Drugs of which I bought their entire discographies and merchandise. I think have the only Motel Motel t-shirt in Belgium :) Not to mention the recordings of my all time favorites like Yo La Tengo, Pavement, Feelies, …

Thank you again, you guys are a blessing for people who enjoy good, exciting music.

    Congratulations!

I have been a reader since early on (when the downloads were only lossless), and can think of few other music sites so perfectly tailored to my own tastes.

Thanks for taping and sharing the music and always showing respect for the bands and your readers.

Happy happy birthday! Thinking back to all the amazing shows I’ve listened to via this site – many of which I attended, and which sounded even better in your recordings than to my own live ears – it’s truly amazing what you’ve built here in four short years. I hereby nominate NYCTaper for the Nobel Prize for Live Music Recording!

Happy Birthday… there’s not many things I can say I do everyday other than drinking a latte, giving my kids and wife a kiss good night and checking your website hoping to be introduced to the next great band. Thanks for a great four years… here’s hoping for many many more…
